Last night was the Somerset Business Awards which were held in Taunton and what a fantastic night it was! The black tie event was hosted by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and attended by over 300 people from all over the county including my wife and I. This meant dusting off the old kilt and exposing my knees to the business people of Somerset.

It was a big night for my entire family. It was only the 3rd night out my wife and I have had in over 5 years. My 5 year-old daughter, Grace went off for her first official sleepover at a friends house and a very brave friend of ours had offered to look after our latest addition Hannah even though she is only 8 weeks old.

The Somerset Business Awards has several award categories and a few weeks ago, each category was shortlisted to just 3 finalists and I was delighted that Made Portraits was one of them. The Lemon Babies project had been recognised by Alice Driscoll of ADPR in the ‘Marketing and Promotion’ category along with Somerset County Cricket Club and Somerdale International Ltd who export cheese.

I’ll be honest and say I was disappointed that Made Portraits didn’t win on this occasion and it was Somerdale International Ltd who came out on top but being recognised as a finalist was honestly amazing. Being a finalist was really fantastic and I will certainly be aiming to do the same again next year. I met some amazing people who run amazing businesses and it was truly a privilege to be included amongst such fantastic company.

Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the kids seemed to enjoy their nights out as well.
